iOS 27 introduces a new method for updating Apple TV software directly through the Home app. This feature, discovered today by Aaron Perris on social media, eliminates the need to physically access the Apple TV device for firmware upgrades.
With iOS 27, users can now install tvOS updates via iPhone, iPad, or Mac by selecting their Apple TV within the Home app interface. The process mirrors HomePod software update procedures, allowing remote installations without manual intervention at the TV itself.
While automatic updates remain an option, Apple's latest approach provides manual control through a more accessible interface. The update section in the Home app consolidates device management tools, streamlining maintenance tasks for connected Apple devices.
Currently available to developers in beta 2 form, iOS 27 will reach public testers in July before a full autumn release. In fact the update accompanies several Prime Day deals, including AirPods Max 2 at $399 (down from $549), Apple Watch Series 11 from $279 (reduced from $399), and M5 MacBook Air priced at $949 ($150 off retail).
